Message From Head of Department

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Civil Engineering which has set up a great tradition in producing eminent technocrats committed to work with high professional standards at the global level. Since its inception, the department has been a hub of academic excellence, which was well recognized with a six-year NBA accreditation for the UG programme and three-year NBA accreditation for the PG programme.

Our department is an arena of eminent faculties with excellent academic qualifications and industry experience who are devoted to provide high quality education to students with the support of laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment. While we ensure students to have absolute clarity in Engineering fundamentals, we encourage and train them to identify creative and innovative solutions for the societal needs.

Our faculties are actively involved in a wide spectrum of research areas contributing significantly towards the benefit of the society, which is recognized at National and International Level on several occasions. We have research collaborations with several International universities which facilitate top quality research and student exchange programs. Department of Civil Engineering facilitate regular interaction of students with industry experts and entrepreneurs, and constantly challenge students to find innovative solutions to industry relevant problems to develop their technical skill along with knowledge.

Lakshman & Co. Kollam, KMML Chavara, Ramco Cements, Samson Ascon Pvt. Ltd. (Korean Company), vLEAD Eduventures, and University of Tabriz, Iran. The department also serves as an epitome of authorized testing and consultancy centre for industries and the general public. The list of clients associated with the department include Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd. (KMML), Kerala Public Works Department (KPWD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Harbour Engineering Department, Kollam Corporation, Employee's State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Indian Railways, Kerala Water Authority, Nirmithi Kendra, Steel Industries Limited Kerala (SILK), Local Self Government Department Kerala (LSGD), Indian Rare Earths and many private agencies. The services offered by the department include structural design and proof checking, detailing, structural stability evaluation, non-destructive testing, forensic investigations, field inspection and monitoring, surveying, soil investigation, and providing expert opinion in various issues related to building construction, structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental and water resources engineering.

Today the Department is ranked one of the best in the state, with its alumni being forerunners in the professional diaspora in different parts of the world.
