About the Department
At TKM College of Engineering, sports and physical activity are an integral part of campus life. The Department of Physical Education is committed to promoting fitness, well-being, and sporting excellence while creating opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, discipline, and resilience beyond the classroom.
The department encourages active participation in sports and games at all levels, ranging from recreational activities and inter-branch competitions to university and national-level championships. Through its diverse programmes and initiatives, students are empowered to adopt healthy lifestyles, build character, and realize their full potential both as athletes and individuals.
Campus Sporting Culture
A vibrant sporting culture has long been one of the defining strengths of TKMCE. The Annual Athletic Meet is among the most anticipated events on campus, bringing together students from across disciplines in a celebration of athletic achievement, determination, and sportsmanship. Inter-branch tournaments, hostel competitions, and modified formats such as Futsal, Three-a-Side Football, Three-a-Side Volleyball, and Three-a-Side Basketball encourage broad participation and ensure that every student has an opportunity to engage in sports.
Supporting this dynamic sporting environment is the TKMCE Sports Club, which plays a pivotal role in promoting student participation and fostering a strong sense of community through sports. Driven by enthusiastic student involvement, the club actively contributes to organizing events, supporting college teams, and creating opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills beyond the playing field.
Heritage Tournaments
The department also upholds a rich sporting legacy through its association with renowned inter-collegiate tournaments, including the George Joseph Memorial Football Tournament (1966), the Asokan Memorial Basketball Tournament (1968), and the Kutty Krishnan Memorial Volleyball Tournament (1967). These tournaments have contributed significantly to the growth of collegiate sports in Kerala and remain an enduring part of the institution's sporting heritage.
