DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The Department of Physics, one of the oldest academic departments of the institution, was established in 1958 along with the inception of the college. As a vital supporting department, it is responsible for imparting fundamental Physics education to all first-year B.Tech students, thereby laying a strong scientific foundation for engineering studies. The department is equipped with a well-established Engineering Physics Laboratory that provides students with hands-on experimental training and enhances their understanding of physical principles relevant to engineering applications. The department currently comprises two permanent faculty members, four adhoc faculty members, and dedicated laboratory staff who collectively strive to maintain high standards in teaching and student support. The department is headed by Dr. Shemim S. S., who holds a Ph.D. in Solid State Physics and has published research articles in reputed journals. The faculty members are actively involved in mentoring students and guiding them in seminars, projects, and research-oriented activities, fostering analytical thinking and scientific inquiry. The department has a rich academic legacy through the contributions of Dr. B. Premlet (Former Head of the Department), an accomplished author of several widely used textbooks, including Advanced Engineering Physics, Physics for Engineers, Electromagnetic Theory with Applications, Introduction to Solid State Devices, and Introduction to Electrical Engineering (Co-author). His publications have served students across various universities and continue to contribute significantly to engineering education. Committed to academic excellence, innovation, and student development, the Department of Physics plays a pivotal role in nurturing future engineers with a strong scientific outlook, problem-solving skills, and research aptitude.
