Industry 4.0 Automation and Control Laboratory

The Industry 4.0 Automation and Control Laboratory of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, TKM College of Engineering, is an industry-supported facility established to provide students with practical exposure to modern industrial instrumentation, measurement, process control, and automation technologies. The laboratory bridges the gap between academic learning and industrial practice by offering hands-on experience with industrial sensors, transducers, process control systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and automation platforms widely used in contemporary industries.

The laboratory supports the Industrial Instrumentation course and provides facilities for experiments in temperature, pressure, displacement, force, and level measurement, sensor calibration, process instrumentation, PLC programming, industrial control systems, and automation-based applications. Students gain practical knowledge in industrial measurement techniques, process automation, ladder logic programming, and real-time control applications, preparing them for careers in manufacturing, process industries, power plants, oil and gas sectors, and other automation-driven industries.

A key feature of the laboratory is its strong industry collaboration. Developed with the support of industry partners, the facility serves as a platform for industry-oriented learning, skill development, and applied research. The Department conducts training programmes, workshops, certification courses, expert sessions, and industry-focused hands-on training programmes in collaboration with hieLABS, a hie CAPITAL Group venture, and DEIF, enabling students and faculty members to acquire practical competencies aligned with current industrial requirements and emerging Industry 4.0 technologies.

The laboratory offers structured training and skill development programmes covering Basic PLC Systems, Advanced PLC Controls, Industrial Automation, Internships, and System Development. These programmes provide participants with practical exposure to industrial automation hardware and software platforms, PLC-based control systems, industrial networking, troubleshooting techniques, and real-world automation applications. The laboratory also supports student projects, internships, prototype development, and industrial problem-solving activities, fostering experiential learning, innovation, and professional growth.

The Industry 4.0 Automation and Control Laboratory plays a vital role in enhancing the employability of students by equipping them with the technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and industry-relevant skills required to meet the growing demands of modern industrial automation, smart manufacturing, and process industries.
